OK here is a recap of yesterday. We had to be at the hospital at 5:45 Wednesday morning to do a repair of her diaphragm. They prepped her and got into surgery at about 8 am and asleep and before cutting into her the surgeon ran a test on the lung and Thank God it was working now.
At about 10 am the Dr. came out and told us this after conferring with other surgeons in the hospital. They decided to offer to go ahead and do her heart surgery which we knew she would eventually need. We agreed. It took them about 2 hours to get additional lines in her and change over to the heart surgery. At about noon they got into the actual surgery. It was to have taken 3 or 4 hours. They were very slow with updates to us.
Finally by 5 they came out and told us they were off the bypass machine and ready to close. They came back a few minutes later and informed us that they had to go back on bypass to tweak some things.
By now things were getting pretty tense. They finally got us someone that could answer questions. This all went on until about 8:30 when they got her stable enough to go off bypass. It took another 1.5 hours to close her and then another 30 minutes to get her stable enough to go to PICU.
At about 11 we got to see her for a few seconds as they took her down. We were to get into PICU in 1 hour. Well after another 2 hours we finally managed to get into the PICU and there was still an army of Dr's and nurses working on her. Dr. Salazar was still there with her. From 1 until about 4 they tried to get her more stable. It was quite a roller coaster ride that scared us to death.
By this morning Thursday she is fairly stable. She is still unconscious being kept under by drugs. They were not able to close her chest last night so we will have to get that done in the coming days.
Bottom line we are stable but serious. Keep praying for her.
