She is ours

Today was adoption registration day.

We were up early around 5 am here with many thoughts running through our heads.  I was seeing the Gospel through adoption.   That will likely become a blog post at some point but still a little too raw to share.  Hannah slept from about 9 last night until around 6 this morning and seems to have rested well.

As usual we started with a great breakfast and it was great to see Hannah eating some variety of food.

At 9 we were off to the adoption registration.  This is back at the same place where we met Hannah yesterday.  The two ladies from the orphanage were there with us.  We had to fill out papers and put our thumb print to seal our signature.

We then had to be questioned by staff.  They ask questions like:   Did you thoroughly consider this adoption?   Did you do this adoption of your own free will.  Why did you want to adopt from China.   Will you promise to always love and care for this child and never abandon her?

We got into an interesting conversation with Emily the lady that interviewed us.  She was very curious about our large family and why we would to this.  We should her pictures and explained why we adopt.

After all of this was completed we headed to the notary office to have everything certified.   On the car ride we got our first English words from her.  JOSHUA is her first word. They will be big friends.

Then off to Wal Mart to pick up a few supplies.   Wal Mart here is an experience to say the least.  In some ways better than at home and other ways so foreign.

We walked to a local noodle shop for lunch.  Good thing we had Esther and Shirley with us as there were no translations or pictures to help in ordering.  The food was cheap and great, about $11 US dollars for 5 of us to eat.

We got back to the hotel and tried to get Hannah to take a nap.  She had her first outpouring of grief.   She cried uncontrollably first with Robin then with me.  It lasted for about 30 minutes of her crying and holding on to one of us with a death grip.   Then it ended and she was playing with Joshua.   She is so tired but fighting sleep.

This evening we had another outburst of tears.   She came up to me while I was working and reached to be held then burst into tears.   She has tried to leave the room a few times.  She wants us to take her somewhere presumably back where she was for 6 years.   We know she is missing friends and care givers, she is wondering why she is here and when will this all end.  She will get through this but it will be a process.

We know this adoption will be difficult due to her age and lack of care.   We also know that God lead us here and that He has it under control.   We need her to grieve but it is hard to watch her going through this.  We have cried with her a few times too.

That is all for today.   Hopefully she can rest tonight.
